A Call to Service
Democrats Answer the "Call"
Call to Service - Focus on Education
Douglas County Democrats, together with Organizing for America, local community service groups, churches and volunteers are responding to President Obama's call to service for August through September. The focus is on education because the current economic crisis resulted in huge budget cuts for our local schools. Volunteers are needed to collect the following items for distribution to Douglas County School districts: supplies (paper, pencils. pens. crayons, rulers, etc), personal hygiene articles (toothpaste and brushes, soap, shampoo, etc.), backpacks, school clothes, and playground equipment (balls, jump ropes, etc.). In addition to gathering supplies, volunteers will also take on small beautification projects at various schools.
Donated items will be collected at the Douglas County Democratic Headquarters, 827 Cass Ave. in downtown Roseburg for distribution.
How much help we are able to give our schools will depend on your willingness to help with these efforts. So please be generous with your donations and time. Help organize collections thru your church, organization, or group. Call the Democratic office at 541-672-8803, or contact project coordinator, Lorna Hayden by email or by phone at 541-733-1115 for more information and to volunteer with this important and meaningful project. Our kids need your help.
The Democratic Party has often been called the "Party of the Helping Hands", so we take President Obama's "Call to Service" very seriously. Call the Democratic Headquarters, located at 827 S.E. Cass Avenue in Roseburg, at 672-8803 weekdays, or call Party Chair Dean Byers at 672-8094 for more information.
